Synopsis:
A dysfunctional family reunites to take an ailing dog on a final walk.
Character Breakdowns:
Readers for initial table read to get timing/show length. Need 3 male adults, 3 female adults, a teenage girl, and a teenage boy.
Characters are:
- A Senior dog (male in a dog costume). Intelligent, understands speech, and talks to special needs son.
- Male to play middle-aged special needs son who speaks eloquently to the dog and more simply with family.
- Female to play matriarch. In 70s, widow, mother of four, physically feeble but strong-minded with a loud voice, which she uses to her benefit.
- Female. The daughter, mid-40s, used to be ‘wild’ now religious. Wants to be seen as righteous.
- Male to play serious, business-minded middle-aged son, trying to be the good son and provide for family.
- Female to play wife of serious brother. Mother of two teenagers. Feminist, dresses very 80s.
- Male to play son who only keeps in touch with special needs brother. Left home after an argument with now deceased father and didn’t return until now.
- Teenage boy, somewhat rebellious but knows how not to get into trouble.
- Teenage girl, agreeable, friendly, not above getting into trouble with her brother.
