Synopsis: At an emotional growth boarding school, in the late-90s, Daniel Henderson resists the bizarre ritual that takes place during Rap sessions, a radical and transgressive form of group therapy. But when he’s indicted for being “out of agreement” with Liz Bankhauser, Sean Powell’s focus turns to breaking Daniel once and for all.
Pitch: Imagine the characters of HBO’s Euphoria in a 90s teen tough love emotional-growth boarding school group therapy session.
Description: Raps is the story of a transgressive, emotionally abusive teen tough-love program in the 90s that was shut down in 2005. Therefore, this film will involve scenes of a sexual nature, dramatic reenactments of physical and emotional abuse, and extreme therapeutic methods that have since been deemed transgressive. The writer/director is a survivor of the school depicted and the film’s intention is to bring light to the story of the survivors as well as empower those survivors by taking control of the narrative.
